No More Vaginal Dryness! Take Sea Buckthorn!

You may be curious as to why Doctor Oz and other nutritional gurus are suddenly hailing sea buckthorn as a miracle. It’s a wonder Americans ever found it: this berry grows on deciduous trees, often in difficult climates. Sea buckthorn is a staple of Traditional Chinese medicine as well as Tibetan medicine. It has been used treat what are, on the surface, appears to be a curiously vast array of symptoms. The reason sea buckthorn is perceived as a cure-all is probably due to its difficulty in harvesting and its difficulty in growing in normal climates. Seaside mountains are often the best home for sea buckthorn. The trees are rough and difficult to harvest. However, the benefits are stellar, even for symptoms like vaginal dryness.

Vaginal Dryness is Often a Symptom

Typically, vaginal dryness is indicative of moisture loss and dehydration in other areas of the body as well, including mucous membranes. Vaginal dryness may be caused by a chemical imbalance, especially in a key essential fatty acid which we’ll discuss below. Since sea buckthorn has been used in the past for treating gum disease, as well as producing moist and supple skin, it follows that this super berry, in theory, may be used as a treatment for vaginal dryness.

Another Rare Nutritional Component

Your word for the day is Omega 7. Sea buckthorn is unusually rich in this EFA, also called palmitoleic acid. It is extremely rare to find such high concentrations of palmitoleic acid in any food (macadamia nuts and macadamia oil are the only commonly available foods that are nutritionally comparable, but those nuts certainly do not come with the well-rounded benefits of sea buckthorn). This component naturally triggers keeping mucous membranes from dehydration, and may greatly reduce vaginal dryness symptoms as well. Read more about sea buckthorn and its omega-7 content.

Additional Benefits of Palmitoleic Oil

Studies are beginning to suggest that palmitoleic oil may have components that regulate how fat oxidizes in the body. That’s right: palmitoleic oil, as well as many of the other essential fatty acids found in sea buckthorn, may help your body control its weight. Those that consume sea buckthorn may also enjoy overall improved skin health, thanks to its moisture properties and high omega content. Sea buckthorn, over the centuries, has been included in Asian skin care products.  Learn more about Dr. Oz recommending sea buckthorn for weight loss.

Other Nutritional Benefits of Sea Buckthorn

Sea buckthorn comes with a host of other nutritional benefits. It is extremely rare to find a berry with this unique level of nutritional content. This nutritional favorite is loaded with Vitamins A, C and D in unusual quantities. The high beta carotene content of sea buckthorn is reflected in its orange color in the same manner that carrots and sweet potatoes contain an orange hue. Sea buckthorn contains a number of flavanoids and other healthy EFA’s that may prevent certain forms of cancer. All in all, sea buckthorn has come to international attention due to its extremely nutrient-rich qualities.

For vaginal dryness, increased skin health overall, and an overall health boost, try sea buckthorn today.

    • Kiran,

We always recommend taking an inside out approach with sea buckthorn. For vaginal dryness the same method should be used. Topically the oil will relieve dryness immediately but taking it internally will provide the body the Omega 7’s to do this itself.

      Hope this helps!

        • Hello,

We would definitely recommend an oil based Omega 7 product. The best kind will actually blend both seed and berry oil- and that’s because the combination of the two will give you a wider range of omegas and antioxidants. There are capsule products with oil in them and if you find a very good quality brand, you can also take pure sea buckthorn seed and berry oils orally (just make sure the bottle has a nutrition facts label first).

          Thanks

    • Hi There Tshego!

We have heard from mothers who have had great results with the rehydrating effects of sea buckthorn. To be on the safe side though, you should definitely consult with your physician before starting any new supplements, especially if you have a little one!

      Thanks for your question

    • Hi Lolita,

There are many factors that contribute to how quickly sea buckthorn products will work. Everything from the level of severity of your condition, your age, weight, height and lifestyle will all have an effect on how any supplement will work for you. So there is no definitive way to say for sure. Some people see results right away and others take a little longer. You should start a journal to keep track of your symptoms in relation to when you take your medication. This will help you to really see how the supplement you are taking is effecting you and how quickly it’s working.

      Thanks for your question.

    • Hello,

Omega 7 is the best supplement for cellular moisture, including vaginal dryness. In sea buckthorn, the highest concentration of Omega 7 is in the fruit. Omega 3 is also very good for celluar health including moisture. If you have to choose between the two, get the Fruit Oil. If you are able to get both oils or if you can find a supplement that has both the seed and fruit oil mixed together that would be ideal.

      Thanks!

  3. Thanks so much, I got the Berry Oil supplement in softgel form, taking 4 per day for now. I also take Flax Oil softgels, which supply the Omega 3 as well. I would like to try the SB Berry Oil topically as well for feminine dryness, will it stain this delicate tissue, that is a concern of mine, thanks again.

    • Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble. Though every situation is different, people generally say that they start to see results from taking sea buckthorn as a supplement after a few weeks of use. It is not an instant fix, like applying a topical treatment, because the sea buckthorn works by supporting the mucous membranes. If the mucous membranes are not functioning properly, it could take a while for them to get back to their normal state. Although the results are not instantaneous, the effect of sea buckthorn could provide you with more long term benefits than any topical treatment. If you can continue your treatment you may see great results but you will need to continue use for a few more weeks.

I’m not sure where you purchased your product from but they would be able to let you know if doing a return is a possibility. This website is strictly informational and we do not sell products.

      Thank you

    • Sea buckthorn oils are very helpful for vaginal dryness. When pessaries are prescribed they are designed to help with prolapse. Although sea buckthorn can help with moisture, we do not think it could work to fight prolapse. It may help you feel more comfortable if you are experiencing dryness.

  6. Dear Sir

I suffer from extremely dry vagina due to being menopausal.

I do not want to take HRT, but have heard that taking Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn Oil Capsules and Sage Complex together for a while, this will be rectified.

    Is this true?

    thanks

    • Hi Manuella,

We don’t know much about sage complex- but we do know that sea buckthorn berry oil (the kind that contains Omega-7) can be extremely helpful for those suffering from vaginal dryness. The Omega-7, other fatty acids and antioxidants in sea buckthorn oil improve cellular health and help restore moisture from the inside. Whatever product you choose, take it for at least a month for best results. Everyone is different but a month is usually a good indication for whether or not a product works.

      Thanks!

  7. Good morning,
I just started five days ago with your Omega 7’s! One in the am, one at night before bed. The only side effect right now is a slight red in my urine, nothing major? Is that normal ? From the berries? Using the product fro vaginal dryness and skin also! Thanks for your response..

    • Karen,

As far as we know that is not a normal side effect. We would suggest talking to your doctor and discontinuing use right away.

      Thank you

    • Hello,

No, that shouldn’t be a side effect. If you are taking a sea buckthorn capsule orally, it can help with vaginal dryness. We have had reports of women using sea buckthorn oil as a lubricant and we don’t suggest doing that. The oil itself won’t do any harm. However, oil is not easy to wash out of that part of the body. That means that if some oil doesn’t get absorbed and isn’t able to get washed out, it could collect bacteria and cause an infection. Hope that helps.

      Thanks

  8. I tried to take 2capules/ day of sea buckthorn oil and started to develop large, painful pimples in various locations on my body. One or two would heal, then another one would develop in another location. I tried to start taking 1 every 18 hours instead of 12 hours but it didn’t help. When I decreased to 1 per day, the problem seemed to die down but my eyes and my vagina are getting very dry again. Any suggestions please?

    • Hi there,

We would advise that you stop taking the product until you speak with a physician. There are so many factors that could be causing this reaction, so it’s hard to say why this is happening to you. Are you taking other medications? What ingredients are in the sea buckthorn product you are taking- is it only a gel cap and sea buckthorn oil or are there other ingredients? Have you recently changed your laundry detergent- that can cause skin issues. Has your diet changed?

Overall, we would suggest to stop taking the capsules completely to see if the problem stops. If it doesn’t, it’s not likely that the issues are coming from the capsules you are taking. We would suggest starting there and if you are able to, speak to a physician about this issue.

      Thank you

  9. Will this work for a woman who is surgically postmenopausal? I had a hysterectomy several years ago and have tried natural hormones which worked very well, but very expensive. I am on premarin cream now and its just such a hassle to have to use before bed, and very messy and its been said the ingredients are not very safe. I want something more beneficial to my body and sea buckthorn sounds like it may be the answer. It would be a blessing. Please advise.

    • Hi there,
It’s definitely worth a try. We suggest using a blend of the fruit and seed oil in a capsule orally. Try it for at least a month. Taking the oil internally can really help with overall dryness in the body. While some people say that using the oil vaginally to fight dryness works great, just be careful. Because it’s a pure oil, it can be a breeding ground for bacteria if used vaginally. That’s because not all of the oil will be absorbed and it’s not easy to wash away.

      Thanks!

  11. I just began taking Sea Buckthorn gel caps, have had severe vaginal dryness for a couple of years, post menopausal (56), and possibly suffering from Sjogren’s Syndrome (dry mouth, dry eyes), awaiting diagnosis. I have begun to notice a slight, mucus-y vaginal discharge, which I haven’t had in years–I see this as a good sign, will keep you posted.

  12. Hi Joann Bristol ,
You have shared excellent information on this page with the outstanding steps to eliminate the dryness from the Sensitive skin of body in a seven days by using the hemp seed oil with the best moisturizer daily according to the period of a time after the recommendations of a doctor and remember the instructions of a doctor which help you to remove this kind of skin dryness disease with the use of best skin moisturizer ,My suggestion is you must go to a doctor one time in a week for starting of proper treatment of eliminating dryness with skin moisturizer appeared on the Sensitive skin of body in a summer season due to the effect of sun rays, keep it in your mind don’t work in the light of sun because the heat of sun with the dust particles in sun rays increase the rough dryness and cracks with lines on the skin due to the demaged of skin layers cells after the working of some time you notice the color of skin become black and cracks with lines are increased on the Sensitive skin of a body this is also a effect of skin cancer . So take care of skin and avoid to work in a light of sun . you also use a mask on the face if necessary to work in the light of sun and also use carrot in the food salad .
    Thanks.
